Meningitis B Vaccine

We are pleased to inform you that one of our suppliers has just advised us that they can deliver some Bexsero vaccinations for Meningitis B. Unfortunately however, due to short supply and the high demand, the cost of this vaccine has increased which subsequently means we are having to charge £195 per dose.

Please note however that we still hope that our regular supply of vaccine will revert to normal later in the year, but the date is currently yet to be confirmed.

Should you wish to vaccinate your child/children now, all we ask is that you contact as soon as possible to make an appointment and as confirmation we simply require payment at the time of booking.

The Meningitis B Vaccination has been available here at Private GP Services since April 2014 but we’ve now been asked by manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline not to start new courses of the meningitis B vaccine – called Bexsero – because of manufacturing shortages.  All of our stock has been urgently re-routed the NHS programme and, subsequently, we are left temporarily unable to provide this vaccine to new patients. This is, of course, very disappointing for us and GlaxoSmithKline has said stocks are expected to return to normal levels by July.

Importantly, we do need to highlight to patients that there are, in actual fact, 5 different strains of Meningitis and there’s recently been a reported spike of occurrences of Meningitis W.  We are strongly suggesting that receiving protection against W and three other strains, A, C, and Y is seriously considered.  This vaccination – Menveo, is available here, with daily appointments available with our practice nurses who would be more than happy to talk this through in much more detail.  The £60 vaccination is available to infants, children and adults alike. Please do call our team on 0116 270 0373 if you would like to discuss this important vaccination in more detail

After a long anticipated wait is finally able to offer Meningitis B vaccination (Bexsero) to our patients.

As many of you have already read or seen on the news, there has been a growing concern regarding the harmful effects Meningitis B can have on a child’s health and development, with leading health organisations urging parents to protect their children by ensuring that all their vaccinations are up to date.

“MenB has been the most common cause of bacterial meningitis in the UK and Ireland.  Vaccines are the only way to prevent meningitis and have almost eliminated some other kinds of meningitis. Since the first meningitis vaccine was introduced against Hib meningitis in 1992, many kinds of meningitis have been reduced or have dwindled to a mere handful of cases, including Hib, MenC and pneumococcal. Thanks to meningitis vaccines, thousands of children are alive today who would otherwise have died from these deadly diseases.  Developing a MenB vaccine has been much more difficult – until now, protection against MenB has been a distant possibility. Meanwhile, meningococcal meningitis and septicaemia remain the leading infectious cause of death for children under five in the UK” – Meningitis Research Foundation website

At we offer the Meningitis B vaccine, along with professional advice and service to give parent’s peace of mind when it comes to their child’s health and wellbeing.
